Makenzie has loved SFX make up since before she can even remember.

- Start of SFX Makeup Love

I always loved creating my own unique characters for Halloween, even as far back as elementary school. What solidified my love for unique and strange make up was the 2003 live action Peter Pan movie. There was a behind the scenes clip about how they created the mermaids in the movie entirely with special effects and I would watch it on repeat.

- Start of Doing SFX Makeup

I started getting into SFX make up through the cosplay world. It was an easy transition from creating costumes for Halloween to creating costumes year round. I attended my first con in 2014 as a Weeping Angel from Doctor Who. After that, I started attending more conventions. My favorite characters to cosplay were characters that had unusual skin colors. It was so much fun to use make up to bring the character to life.

- First Makeup Gig

I started what I consider my professional work in make up in high school. My school was putting on a haunted house and asked me to be the lead make up artist for. I had the opportunity to use products I couldn’t afford on my own and teach people who were also wanting to get into the world of make up. It really showed me that I had the capability to do this

- Professional Background and Training

My first proper make up only job was working as a SFX make up artist for Fright Fest at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I worked on the airbrush line while also doing prosthetics. It was a wonderful way to learn from extremely talented artist (including Scott Ramp, the founder of The Scream Team prosthetics company). Working in this fast paced environment also taught me time management skills. I now have lots of experience using airbrush, scar wax prosthetics and I have the honor of a MUA certification through the Vizio Makeup School.

- Other Work

I currently work with the Murder Mystery Co. as an actor. There I take on a variety of roles, creating costumes and make up looks from my own imagination to match with my interpretation of each character. I have also been a part of many musicals and plays and continue to work as an actor in LA.

- Personal Background:

I was born and raised in LA and still live there to this day. I identify as bisexual and I use she/they pronouns. I love consuming and creating art in any form (music, theater, museums, books, podcasts, tv shows and movies). I especially love dragons, fantasy, musical theatre and BTS.
